About Us
Our Story
Hello, my name is Paul Miedico, founder of the Oviedo Flag Caretaker—a nonprofit organization I established in 2024 at the age of 13. My journey began in middle school when I joined the JROTC elective in seventh grade. Through that experience, I developed a deep appreciation for the respect and reverence the American flag deserves. By eighth grade, I had earned the position of second-highest rank in the JROTC program, which instilled in me a strong sense of leadership and civic responsibility.
Throughout the year, I observed numerous American flags around Oviedo that were neglected or improperly displayed. Motivated to make a difference, I launched Oviedo Flag Caretaker to raise awareness and promote respectful flag stewardship in our community.
As of 2025, I continue to provide complimentary flag services, including:
- Routine equipment maintenance
- Snap and clip adjustments
- Halyard and rope replacements
- Half-staff services for appropriate flag protocol
Currently, I am honored to serve approximately eight to nine clients and remain committed to expanding the reach of my nonprofit. My mission is to support my community, educate others on proper flag etiquette, and ensure our nation’s symbol is treated with the dignity it deserves.
Our Goals
My goals with the Oviedo Flag Caretaker are to expand its reach within the community, educate others—especially youth—on proper flag etiquette, and provide dependable, free services that ensure American flags are maintained and displayed with respect. By partnering with more clients and raising awareness, I aim to inspire civic pride, promote patriotic values, and lead by example as a young community advocate.
